Happy hump day! How is your week going so far?
Today’s Finding Your Happy post kind of ties into spending time in nature, but the main focus is staying active. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t get overly excited at the idea of exercise. I tend to be a 0 to 100 person so I’m either doing the bare minimum or working out several hours a day, seven days a week. However, both of those options are not healthy for my physical and mental state. I am working really hard to find balance, and meet somewhere in the middle. I’m also training myself to understand that I don’t need to run myself ragged for it to benefit my body.
I think we sometimes underestimate the power of a simple walk. Even if it doesn’t burn many calories, you’re still moving, and as Elle Woods would say, “Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy…” If you know what movie that’s from, leave a comment, and tell me what she says next!
It may not always be the easiest thing to convince myself to do if I’m feeling down, but taking a walk is a surefire way to lift my spirits. Especially if Penelope is tagging along or a friend joins me. There’s something about being outdoors and talking about anything and everything with someone I adore that makes me SO happy.
Fresh air + exercise + friendship = a blessing.
Obviously, there are many ways to get moving. Maybe you prefer cycling, yoga, boxing… even chores around the house count! Don’t overthink it. Just get active, and see how your body and mind thank you.
I still have a couple more posts up my sleeve before the month is done, but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has been so supportive during this series! It means more than you’ll ever know.
What has been your favorite Finding Your Happy post so far? ๐
All my love,
I’ve actually started a daily excursive routine myself. Its only 20 minutes a day so far but I am proud of myself for committing to it. And I can already tell a difference in my energy! I LOVE the shot of u and Penelope so much girl! Hope u are doing well. XO
People try and tell me my short walks with my dog are not exercising but: I work on my feet 40+ hours and I love spending time outside in nature with Lucy enjoying some well needed fresh air. I know I need to move and it is a step in the right direction.
Agreed!!
That’s amazing!! I think walking can get so quickly overlooked, but it helps out bodies and minds so much. And thank you!!! ๐
I love walks with my dog, Bella Grace, she is a lab/hound mix and she gets so excited whenever we mention the word walk. Her tails starts wagging a thousand wags a minute and she will literally start talking to you in excitement and stand by the door until we leave.
This winter in Vermont has been brutal. I was born and raised in Vermont so you would think I would be used to it by now, at 39, but I am not.
I was diagnosed with seasonal depression and without fail every winter I get the blues. This winter has been even more depressing as it has been one of the most brutal winters we have had in years. We lost power for almost 5 days due to trees falling over on power lines and because we live out in the woods we were one of the last houses to get electricity back. Thank the Lord for our landlords generator or we wouldn’t have had lights or alittle water in this time. (Enough to fill some buckets up some we had some)
Vermont is a beautiful state. The green mountains in fall are so gorgeous with the bursting of bright colors. In the spring and summer I am an avid gardener and start my flower beds as soon as the grown thaws. I am literally counting down for Spring as I type this comment.
We just really started getting out for walks again recently and I have missed it so much, between hauling wood and shoveling there hasn’t been much time for anything else but I definitely notice my moods are more uplifting when I am doing something vs sitting inside watching tv or barricading ourselves in from a storm.
Being out in nature is so uplifting and calming to my soul and walks do this for me. Thanks for reminding me what’s so important and knowing someone else feels the same as me always inspire’s me more. Here’s to getting healthy both body and spirit together.
I am loving your blog so far, I really need to start my own this year, starting my beauty review page was my first new year’s resolution. I quit smoking also around june of last year, it has been at least 6 months now. I am vaping now, and I need to quit this now. Lol.
One day at a time right?
Thank you so much for sharing! I can’t even imagine winter in Vermont. I’m a Cali girl so when it gets below 70, I’m freezing. haha And yes, one day at a time! โก
Love this! I definitely enjoy waking, it actually makes me happy, itโs hard here in Massachusetts though since winter is so long and harsh. โEndorfins make you happy and happy people donโt kill their husbandsโ or something like that ๐๐๐ love legally blond!
My fave post so far has been the one about our furry friends ๐๐๐
Your doggo is so cute. <3
Really love how you've put your thoughts to words so articulately.
I'm a student and I travel 5 hours daily to reach college and return home. So the walking process is a regular thing for me at least 30 mins daily, actually more than that and when I return home I'm just too tired to do anything else to escape.
