Douglas Family Preserve

Happy Thursday!

Today is a very special, personal post because I’m sharing one of my favorite spots in California. It may be open to the public, but it has always felt like my own slice of heaven. After many years, I decided it was time to stop being selfish and share it. The preserve is open and airy which makes it easy to social distance.

The Douglas Family Preserve is located in Santa Barbara and directly next to one of the best dog friendly beaches, Arroyo Burro. Make sure to type Arroyo Burro Beach into your GPS when driving to Douglas Family Preserve. It will lead you to a giant parking lot, and the preserve is towards the left. They even have a doggy washing station centrally located in the parking lot in case your fluffy companion gets dirty. Bathrooms can be found on the Arroyo Burro side as well.

This photo was taken from the Arroyo Burro side facing the Douglas Family Preserve.

At the end of the parking lot, you will find a paved path. Follow it until you reach a bridge.

Once you cross the bridge, you will be right back on the path. It runs all the way to the top, and eventually turns into an open space. It is an uphill walk, but it’s not steep or long. Do not get intimidated!

They have a doggy station about half way up the hill, but beware, it’s the last one for a while.

When you reach the top, you will see Quiet Zone signs that state no dogs are allowed. The sign only applies to the left side of the open space that is closest to the houses. Stay to the right and you will be fine.

They even have a water bowl for dogs! Keep in mind that leashes are optional in the open space so you will probably be greeted by a meandering fluff-ball.

The view is one of a kind, and never gets old.

A swing with a view!

The famous, lopsided tree offers the best view of Arroyo Burro Beach, and is the most serene spot. Sit and stay awhile!

If you are in the area, I highly recommend venturing to the Douglas Family Preserve. Pack a picnic, grab your loved one and head to the coast!

Hours: Open 24 Hours.

Parking: Free! The parking lot fills up quickly, especially on the weekend.

Entrance Fee: Free!

Pet Friendly: Yes.

All my love,
