When someone hurts you, the natural response is to fight fire with fire or block them from your life completely. What would happen if we took a moment and put ourselves in their shoes? What if we stood back and looked at the situation as a whole?
I’ll be the first to admit that it is so much easier to stay angry and hope karma returns the favor… but if we change our perspective, we might be closer to understanding their actions. It certainly will not erase the hurt, and the relationship will probably never be the same. However, it might bring closure and peace to the problem. Maybe they didn’t mean to hurt you, but they are dealing with something internally, and you were an easy target. Maybe they are battling depression or their marriage is falling apart. Maybe they just lost their job and don’t know what’s next. There are so many variables to consider, and until we dig deeper, we only see one side.
Not everything is as it seems, and I’m learning to give others the benefit of the doubt. I am done fighting fire with fire. I want to fight fire with love because that’s who I am. Who’s with me?
All my love,
