Give Back

Last month I found a ten dollar bill in a puddle in LA, and while it put a big smile on my face, I knew it wasn’t mine to keep. I thought about using the old finders keepers law, but it just didn’t sit well with me. I figured it was best to pass it along so it could brighten someone else’s day the way it brightened mine.

I ended up changing it into a Starbucks gift card, and putting it inside a card with a little note. I wish I could be there to see the person who opened it, but these type of things are best left anonymous.

I thought this fit perfectly into Finding Your Happy because there’s no greater feeling in the world than giving. To be honest, between the stolen car, being sick and USPS losing yet another one of my packages, I wasn’t in the mood to smile. Let alone give away something. However, as soon as I put the card on their windshield, I had a little extra pep in my step. It was like a weight was lifted off my shoulders, and I was H A P P Y. It made me think of the quote:

“At the end of the day, it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished… it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better. It’s about what you’ve given back.”

I challenge you to pass your happy on this week. Whether that be volunteering at a food pantry or animal shelter, buying someone’s coffee or even just lending a listening ear to someone who needs it. I have noticed that the harder we cling to keep our happiness to ourselves, the less happy we become. So open your heart, and share a piece of it! ♡

All my love,

  1. I really love this, it truly gives me hope that there are still GOOD people in the world. I feel like we do often forget the good, especially when bad things happen to us. My boyfriend and I love helping other people, we each carry little boxes in our cars full of food, hygiene items, and a note. We give them to homeless people when we see them. Here in Orlando, FL there seems to be someone on every corner. We aren’t rich, we don’t have much, but it is one of our goals to share HOPE and LOVE with the people around us. It makes my heart so happy that you, even though you had a rough week and you didn’t think you wanted to smile, you still put someone else before yourself. I totally agree, it really is the most amazing feeling helping others. I look forward to reading more of your posts and I hope we can be friends! You are a beautiful soul and I’m excited to get to know you!

    1. Oh my goodness! That is incredible, and I love that idea! Little acts of kindness mean so much, and you have touched so many people’s lives by doing that. Thank you for sharing! 🙂 ♡

  2. Every time my husband and I pick up someone’s meal tab anonymously it makes me smile. Though we never see their reaction we are sure it gave them a reason to smile and find a little more hope in the world. We have been very blessed and I am always glad to pass some blessing on to someone else. 💜

  3. I just told you I couldn’t think of something I’ve done as an act of kindness and you were so sweet giving me a nice response. I thought a little harder and actually it doesn’t have to be a huge act to count, it could just be a nice word. Just like you did with me.
Last week I was chatting to the mom of one of my daughter’s friends and sometimes we forget how hard we are on ourselves but all it takes is to compliment someone to make her feel better. Moms and women in general need to lift up each other, it’s the little things that create big changes in the world!
